Being a star in the Nigeria music sector is not something you do over night or with the blink of an eye. Not to talk of building a successful career in it and maintaining that success over time.

You can tell that a lot of good Nigerian artistes have broken into the music sector, made it big time and before you know it they are back to square 1.

While some have made it with their first appearance/debut and are still making it. We are going to be talking about 5 Nigerian artistes that have made it and are still making it while being relevant in the music sector.

These Are Top 5 Nigerian Artistes Who Proved That Their Debut Track Was A Major Hit:

1. Olamide

YBNL boss, Olamide Adedeji well known as Olamide Badoo made his first single ‘Eniduro’ in the year 2010, and then his first studio album ‘Rapsodi’ a year after.

During this period he was signed to Coded Tunes.

Then he proceeded to release his second album YBNL under his own record label, Yahoo Boy No Laptop, and ever since then he has been consistent year in year out with lots of major hits that you and I can testify to.

The boss even gave us a dance of his own creation, Shakiti Bobo. Olamide has been one of the best indigenous rappers in Nigeria.

2. Davido

Popularly known as OBO (Omo Baba Olowo) debut in 2012 with his single ‘back when’, on it was featured rapper Naeto C, this was an instant hit as at that time.

With his inbuilt energy, the DMW boss did not rest on his laurels as he followed back when with ‘Dami duro’ which was even more successful than the former.

And that was how the road became straight for the musical lad.

His career has been known to be on the green side with several local and international collaborations and awards attached to it. He is to be featured on Nick Canon’s Wild n’ Out on May 14th

3. Burna Boy

You can testify that last year was a big year for Burna Boy. Though his success didn’t start last year when he became the artiste of the year, it started in 2013 with his debut, when he released ‘like to party’.

You could tell that the song had a different vibe and flow and instantly caught on with music lovers in Nigeria.

The Spaceship Ent. boss was not relenting as he gave us more hits such as ‘yawa dey’ and ‘run my race’.

Burna went on to release his debut album titled ‘Life’ that same year.

Since then, Burna boy’s career has continued to grow, releasing two more successful albums, ‘On a Spaceship’ in 2015 and ‘Outside’ in 2018. In addition, he has also gone on to sell out The O2 Academy Brixton, a feat he achieved last year.

4. Tiwa Savage

What is this list without a female figure in it, right?

Ex back up singer for international musicians such as Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, to mention a few, Tiwa savage came into the Nigerian music industry despite several discouragement and doubts.

I can clearly remember when she released her debut single ‘Kele Kele Love’ which made its way to the top of several Nigerian music charts.

Tiwa savage’s career has not slowed down since then, she established 323 entertainment with her former manager ad husband Tee Billz and in 2012 she joined Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records.

The beautiful artiste has won multiple awards which include an MTV EMA, MTV African Music Awards, two Headies among others. She is also affilaited to Sony/ATV and Roc Nation.

5. Wizkid

Someone would ask how can I include Davido on this list and Wizkid won’t be here. Of cus he is.

Wizkid burst into the Nigerian music scene in 2011 with his debut single ‘Holla at your boy’ which became an instant major hit.

Within a short period of time he gained massive popularity and his fan base grew. In that same year he went on to release his highly successful debut album “Superstar” which contained hits such as ‘Pakuromo, tease me, to mention but a few.

The super star album established Wizkid as indeed a superstar. All these while he was signed to Banky W’s EME record.

He made one of the ever green bangers ‘Ojuelegba’ which earned him international recognition, collaborations and a record deal with RCA. If you like argue with your Internet connection, Wizkid has since then been one of the biggest artistes in Africa.
