New Barcelona signing, Frenkie de Jong has admitted that he always envisaged playing for Arsenal, before making a dream move to Camp Nou.
The 22-year-old midfielder rose to prominence last season during Ajax's unlikely run to the Champions League semi finals.
Although he was chased by some of Europe's biggest clubs, De Jong decided to join Barca in a €75million deal.
De Jong has now revealed how he wanted to follow Marc Overmars' path.
Overmars, who is the sporting director at Ajax, played for the Dutch club before he went on to represent Arsenal and Barcelona.
"In my mind I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route.
"But then again, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream," De Jong told Voetbal International.
